Asp.Net Membership Provider with Custom DB Schema

Nov 27, 2007 at 6:04 AM
Hi Rajesh,

I have a query w.r.t the usage of Asp.Net 2.0 Membership provider.

The membership provider that comes out of the box is very limiting as we are restricted to use the built-in database schema.
Our business need demands the addition of more columns for storing complete user information, which makes the Membership.CreateUser method to fail.
Is there any possibility for changing/altering the DB schema and handling the same in the Custom Membership Provider class.

Hi Prashanth,

You can use the default implementation of the ASP.NET Profile Provider to solve your problem. Check out this article for more details - http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/101106-1.aspx

Also, take a look at Table Profile Provider, which provides performance improvements over the default implementation. You can find more details at http://www.asp.net/downloads/sandbox/table-profile-provider-samples/

Hope this Helps.
